The Hunt for the Golden Bulls will start on March 1, 2021. This year we are presenting a modified hunt:

Golden Bull hunt - the covid 2021 edition

This year’s Golden Bull Hunt will be a little different. Our 11th Annual hunt is called the “COVID 2021 Edition”

Starting on March 1st, we release a riddle, puzzle or challenge to solve for the month. We will continue to release new puzzles each month through July. There is no actual bull to find hidden in Durham this year.

If you can solve the puzzle you will receive a reward for your efforts that month. Let's call it the freebie. Everyone can win.

Each correct solution also enters you into a monthly drawing - one person each month will be randomly selected from all the correct entries to win a bigger monthly prize. The quicker you solve the puzzle, the more entries you receive for the monthly drawing. We know what the freebie is, but you don't. At least we think we know. We might not know. Only we know what it is and you don't know.  If you knew and we didn't know then you would be riddling us instead of us riddling you. For a riddle solver to riddle the riddle makers is both presumptuous and rude. Do we make ourselves clear?

In the sixth month or August, there will ... something. We might know, we might not know. 

COVID 2021 Rules:
If you answer correctly you will receive a monthly freebie. The prize expires on the last day of that month.

In addition:
If you solve the riddle in less than 24 hours of its release you get 5 entries into the bigger monthly drawing.
If you solve the riddle within 24-48 hours of its release you earn 3 entries into the bigger monthly drawing.
If you solve the riddle within 48-72 hours of its release you earn 2 entries into the bigger monthly drawing.
After three days, up to one week, if you solve the riddle you receive 1 entry into the bigger monthly drawing.. The winning ticket is drawn 1 week after the riddle is released. You can still earn the monthly freebie until the last day of the month, but you can no longer enter the bigger monthly drawing.
We will stop accepting correct answers each month when we hit 1,902 entries that month.
Any age can win the monthly freebies. Must be 18 yrs or older to enter the bigger monthly drawing.

Solutions must be submitted online using the Google form linked below. Please submit how you solved it. You must submit both the answer and how you solved it. We don't care much for people who sponge the answer off of a friend's hard work or big brain power. 

As big fans of Willy Wonka, the original movie with Gene Wilder, we thought we’d have our own golden tickets, err bulls that is.  We hide five golden bulls (okay they are brass, we couldn’t afford solid gold) in and around Durham for five lucky winners to win a free meal each week for a year*.  Each day we reveal more clues here on our website and social media regarding where to find a Golden Bull.  If you find one, you must claim it for the prize.  Full details below in the “fine print.”  Let the hunt begin.

Ground Rules for the Hunt: Please do not destroy any personal property.  No bull will be hidden in a location which requires going inside a non-public space.  No bull will be buried or sealed inside anything.  Nothing will need to be damaged, broken, taken apart, busted, cracked, or dismantled.  Please respect any and all people, businesses, or property while you search.  Thank you and good luck!

  1. call BCBB and talk to a manager (919) 680-2333
  2. arrange a time to bring in your golden bull and claim victory
  3. bring your photo ID and be ready for a photo to go on the wall
  4. within 24 hours email a description of how you found the bull (moocow[at]bullcityburgerandbrewery[dot]com)
  5. please do not send a photo of the bull or take photos of you with the bull. You may be disqualified if you take or post any photos of the bull.

*The contest begins March 1st and ends when all bulls are found. The first free burger day for winners is April 1st or the first day in April BCBB is open. The last day of free burgers is March 31 the following year. Must be 18 years or older to claim a prize. IDs will be checked. Bring your ID. One Golden Bull winner per person and per family. If you find a Golden Bull redeem it in person at Bull City Burger and Brewery during regular business hours. Please email us to let us know you are coming in at (moocow[at]bullcityburgerandbrewery[dot]com). Winners receive one hamburger or veggie burger per week with one $1 topping, one regular dirty fry order and one non-alcohol beverage of choice. No substitutions for specialty burgers or special features. Can’t be used toward a specialty burger. No alcohol included. A week is defined as any hours BCBB is open for business Sunday through Saturday. BCBB cannot be held accountable for acts of God, weather, and business interruptions during any week. Only one free burger meal can be claimed per week. Cannot be used online.  Multiple burgers cannot be saved up for redemption in one week. Only the person claiming the Golden Bull can receive the free burger each week. No family members, spouses, former spouses, children, cousins (kissing or otherwise) can claim your prize.
